PRESS RELEASE

Broek in Waterland (NL), December 10, 2012

Website and book artist painter Henri Cassiers (1858-1944).

Today the Dutch photographer Olaf Klijn published the website www.henricassiers.com

(in Dutch and English) featuring reproductions of works as fine art prints and information about the Antwerp born artist painter Henricus Paulus Emilius VictorCassiers (1858-1944).

The work HenriCassiers created in The Netherlands in the period from around 1895 to 1910 provides an interesting and distinct view of Holland in about 1900.

In Brussels Cassiers studied architecture under P. Saintenoy. He also followed courses at

“La Patte de Dindon” Vrije Academie in Brussels and in Antwerp at “St. Josse-Ten-Noode” Academie as well as the Fine Arts Academy.

His mentors included H. Stacquet and C.W Bartlett.

In 1881 he put on his first exhibition and subsequently travelled extensively in England, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy and The Netherlands.

Like many of his contemporaries among whom Willy Sluiter, Auguste Hanicotte, Nico Jungman and Edward Penfield, when he came to Holland he spent most of his time in Zeeland, the villages around today’s IJsselmeer (before completion of the Afsluitdijk in 1932 still open sea: the Zuiderzee) and Katwijk.

Like many other foreign artists he stayed at Hotel Spaander in Volendam on several occasions. In fact silent film from this period exists in which he can be seen acting together with various members of the Spaander family.

In The Netherlands a number of original works by Henri Cassiers can be viewed at museums in Volendam, Enkhuizen, Harderwijk, Katwijk and Middelburg.

Henri Cassiers was adept in a variety of techniques including graphic art, crayon, etchings, lithographs, water color, gouache and oils. His favorite medium was water color and he was to become president of the Société Royale Belge des Aquarellistes in Belgium.

As illustrator he created numerous designs for posters, book illustrations, postcards and menu cards.

Cassiers exuded a cheerful, optimistic approach to life and was a technically skilful painter who placed the accent on the picturesque.

His style was figurative and illustrative while his themes often featured country life, village and city views, fishermen, boats and traditional dress.

Cassiers received awards for his work:

Gold medals: Cologne 1889, Turin 1902, Barcelona 1907, Munich 1909.

Silver medals: Brussels 1897, St. Louis 1904, Liege 1905.

Photographs have been taken in a professional studio of the original works such as crayon, etchings, lithographs, water color, gouache and posters of Henri Cassiers.

The 4x5 inch color transparencies have been scanned with the use of a drum scanner in high resolution. The so called giclée prints are being printed using the latest generation of ink jet printers with Ultra Chrome K34 ink in 8 colors and 3 blacks on 308 grams acid free Hahnemühle Rag Bright Smooth paper (off white).

These prints have a guaranteed lifespan of over 100 years.

The computer techniques make it possible to achieve results that cannot be matched by the best color lithographs or silk screens.

The fine art prints can be ordered on the website www.henricassiers.com.

Olaf Klijn also published the book “Holland anno 1900, Henri Cassiers” which can be previewed ordered on www.blurb.com > search > Olaf Klijn.

The Cassiers website also gives information about Olaf Klyn Photography.
