A magical journey of 22 blocks captures the imagination of artist Ellen Bradshaw in her newest series of oil paintings from the High Line.
This thoroughly unexpected inspiration of wildly beautiful nature against the gritty cityscape of New York 30 feet above the city streets takes the artist from the lush colorful lively palette of an early summer’s day in June to the stark whites and browns of the first snowfall in December. From the Meatpacking District through Chelsea and on to Hells Kitchen, the compelling juxtaposition of nature, rivets and steel, and the unusual vantage point of city streets below open the eyes and the heart to a truly visionary experience of New York!
Bradshaw’s work was influenced by the realism of the Ashcan painters, as well as the sense of color and atmosphere explored by the Impressionists. She has shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and is the recipient of several awards. Ellen is a member of Allied Artists of America and Pen and Brush. She is President of Pleiades Gallery since 2000.
“This show is dedicated to a dear friend, Ethel Schlesinger, who insisted that the High Line would inspire a powerful unique way of seeing our beloved city. She is always with me in spirit.”
