Sotheby's is delighted to announce the forthcoming Impressionist, Modern & Surrealist Art Evening Sale to be held on 5 February 2014. This auction offers an exceptional variety of paintings, sculptures and works on paper. Leading the sale is Pissarro's extraordinary Boulevard Montmartre, matinée de printemps which belongs to the most celebrated series of urban scenes produced by the artist, and is undoubtedly one of the finest Impressionist paintings to appear at auction for many years.
There are also several masterworks of German Expressionism by Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej von Jawlensky and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Surrealist art is strongly represented by a number of paintings by Magritte, including the enchanting Le beau monde and Miró's poetic Peinture from 1926.
